TIL that Ayrton Senna carried Austrian flag in his car the day he died in a crash.

Today I learned about one of the most touching gestures of respect in sports. It is about Ayrton Senna, a legendary F1 driver who died in a car crash in San Marino GP, Imola 1995.

It all goes like this. The sport of F1 lost two of its drivers over the race weekend at Imola. Austrian rookie Roland Ratzenberger died during qualifying on April 30 following a high speed crash. Not only that, during the afternoon qualifying session, Senna's compatriot and protégé Rubens Barrichello was involved in a serious accident when his Jordan became airborne at the Variante Bassa chicane and hit the tyre-wall and fence. Barrichello suffered a broken nose and arm and withdrew from the event.

Although both these incidents shocked the racing fraternity and raised questions about the safety of the drivers, the organizers nevertheless went ahead with the race the next day. Shortly after the race started, Senna's car crashed at the Tamburello corner in lap 7, in which he died of a fatal brain injury. After Senna was pulled from the wreckage, the race marshals found this buried inside of the cockpit.

Yes, it's the flag of Austria. The ever determined and possibly the most ruthless racing drivers of all time was planning on unfurling it after winning the race as a mark of respect for the rookie Roland Ratzenberger. Although every fiber in his body was against it, he decided to race not for himself, but for the youngster. The world has since then, decisively been trying to ignore the promising rookie. But the legend, in his last few hours made it a point to remember him... for eternity.

That's true sportsmanship.

Excerpt from the book I liked

Posting this excerpt as is from the book 'Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking' by Susan Cain.

Montgomery, Alabama. December 1, 1955. Early evening. A public bus pulls to a stop and a sensibly dressed woman in her forties gets on. She carries herself erectly, despite having spent the day bent over an ironing board in a dingy basement tailor shop at the Montgomery Fair department store. Her feet are swollen, her shoulders ache. She sits in the 1st row of the Colored section and watches quietly as the bus fills with riders. Until the driver orders her to give her seat to a white passenger.

The woman utters a single word that ignites one of the most important civil rights protests of the twentieth century, one word that helps America find its better self.

Turned 26!

Birthdays are special. A day in a year to ponder over and be thankful for all the good things in your life. A day which marks an anniversary of your tiny yet meaningful existence on this vast, crazy world. A day to be blessed for having beautiful friends, a loving family. It also however is a day which induces a little tinge in you that you grew a year older while chasing your life dreams. However, I believe below is true as I am turning 26 today.

Released my first Android app.

Kinda old news but go on anyway.

OK, So I've been learning to develop an Android application lately. As part of this, I decided to put together a small, simple application and publish it to Google Play Store. However, there was a catch. I didn't know what to develop at first place. Thought a lot. No idea popped up. I felt like a loser groping for app ideas at one point but nothing came up.

Then one fine day, I came to know about an app for Ahmedabad while browsing Play Store. I immediately looked up for similar app for Baroda and couldn't find one. Boom! This has to be it. I decided to make an app for Baroda.

One day trip to Wilson Hills and Sardar Sarovar Dam

With a monsoon season slowly getting into fray, a backpacker soul in us was dying to get closer to nature. So decided one fine Friday evening to go for one day trip to Wilson Hills, a hill station near Valsad in south Gujarat and Sardar Sarovar Dam. Sure enough, our choice was not bad as you will come to know after reading this post.
